Plot Synopsis

In the ninth year of Tianwu, the whole country was in chaos and the eight princes raised troops to rebel. Xia Tianying, together with Empress Dowager Wu Zhaoyi, severely defeated the eight princes, quelled the civil unrest and established a new dynasty. On the day of Xia Tianying's grand wedding with Gu Li, Empress Dowager Wu Zhaoyi easily believed the rumors spread throughout the imperial court that Gu Li was a witch who bewitched the emperor and disrupted the court order. Empress Dowager Wu Zhaoyi poisoned the wine of Xia Tianying and Gu Li. The two of them were poisoned and unable to move. Empress Dowager Wu Zhaoyi then ordered Gu Li to be killed. Xia Tianying watched helplessly as Gu Li died before his very eyes.
