Plot Synopsis

In 1472 AD, Wang Lun named his newly born grandson Wang Yun according to his wife's dream, and later changed it to Wang Shouren. Wang Shouren was born into a family of prominent officials. He had lofty aspirations in his youth. After entering officialdom, he was able to clearly distinguish right from wrong and make good judgments, and redressed grievances for the people. Wang Shouren offended the eunuch clique by submitting a memorial to the emperor to rescue the supervising officials. After being flogged in the imperial court, he was demoted to Longchang Post in Guizhou. There, Wang Shouren discovered a cave and named it Yangming Cave. Since Wang Shouren was already famous for his poetry in his early years, students from far and near came to study with him one after another. Thus, a desolate and barren land became a harmonious place for preaching and teaching.
