Plot Synopsis

During the Wei and Jin Dynasties, political power changed hands frequently, wars raged incessantly, and the politics was dark. For their own interests, Cao Shuang, Sima Yi, Sima Zhao and others vied with each other to recruit famous scholars to serve in the government. However, famous scholars such as Huangfu Mi, Ji Kang and Ruan Ji resisted tyranny with integrity and refused to serve, and even fled from or abandoned their official positions. Ji Kang thus paid with his precious life. The life-and-death love affairs between Huangfu Mi and the talented woman Xiang Heng who resisted the clan forces that "used Confucian ethics to kill people", and Yun Niang, a noble lady who escaped from the deep palace, as well as the legendary and profound love between Ji Kang and the Princess of Changle Pavilion.
