Plot Synopsis

Nanyang, an ancient city, guards important passes. Hidden dragons and crouching tigers can be found here, and it has always been a place contested by military strategists. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong, a batch of gold, silver and jewels secretly escorted to the capital city suddenly disappeared when passing through Nanyang. More than two hundred escorting officers and soldiers were all killed, and the gold, silver and jewels were nowhere to be found... The emperor was furious and ordered Gu Yiguan, a newly appointed imperial scholar, to investigate the case and arrest the culprits within a specified time limit. After Prefect Gu took office, strange things happened one after another. The prefectural yamen was haunted frequently, masked men appeared repeatedly, and homicides occurred in succession...
