Plot Synopsis

Yang Yuwei, a scholar who was wholeheartedly seeking fame and success, studied hard in his desolate study. Here he got acquainted with the beautiful ghost Lian Suo. He learned that the White Impermanence in the underworld wanted Lian Suo to be his concubine. Yang Yuwei thwarted his plan and brought Lian Suo back to his own home. Lian Suo's father looked down upon Yang Yuwei who was of low status and refused to betroth his daughter to him. On his way to the capital to take the imperial examination, Yang Yuwei encountered an accident. Fortunately, he was saved by a family of fox spirits led by Qiao Na, who took him in to recuperate and prepare for the examination. When setting out again, Yang Yuwei was teased by Nie Xiaoqian, a sweet osmanthus spirit. However, he was not swayed by her beauty. Seeing that Yang Yuwei was a true gentleman, Nie Xiaoqian used magic to help Yang Yuwei get on the honor roll in the examination hall.
