Plot Synopsis

This play depicts the dramatic life of "Cinderella" Li Yuqin, who married the last emperor Puyi, divorced him, and then married a commoner. From the perspective of ordinary people, through the strange fate of a woman, the script reveals the life trajectories under the different institutional changes of the puppet Manchukuo, the rule of the Kuomintang, and the Communist regime. Li Yuqin, born into a poor family, was selected to enter the imperial palace at the age of fifteen and married Puyi, becoming the imperial concubine of Manchukuo overnight. Soon, the war changed her fate. With the surrender of Japan and the collapse of the puppet Manchukuo, Puyi fled in a hurry, leaving Li Yuqin behind and not taking her away.
