Plot Synopsis

In a closed rural area, 30-year-old Xiaohong was forced by her mother and matchmaker Sister Wang to "exchange marriages". She was married to Ergou whose parents had both died, while Ergou's sister Xiaohua had to marry Xiaohong's silly brother Daniu. Xiaohua resisted fiercely but couldn't break free because of a marriage exchange document. After marriage, Xiaohong and Ergou gradually developed true feelings and she became pregnant. However, Xiaohua would rather die than submit and firmly refused to get married. Eventually, she ran away to join her lover. After being forcibly taken back to her natal home by her mother, Xiaohong jumped off a cliff in despair but was luckily saved. Sister Wang, Xiaohong's mother and Ergou were detained by the police for forcing an exchange marriage, while Xiaohua finally got married to her lover and迎来自由新生 (this part seems a bit unclear in the original Chinese, perhaps it should be something like "embraced a free new life").
